EMDR Consultations at REM Therapy
This blog page has been severely neglected, but if you’ve stumbled across this page today, I’m happy you’re here to hang out. It’s two weeks into January 2025, and we already have a LOT of exciting news and offers to share this year.
We’ve been hard at work making changes on our website, and giving it a refresh for the year. Just two weeks ago I finally started an Instagram account for REM Therapy Services (@theremtherapist), and I promised myself I’d give it an honest go this year in an effort to increase our online presence - makes sense in an increasingly digital world, right?
But… back to the title of this post - I’m really excited to announce that we are now offering EMDR clinical consultations at REM Therapy Services, and our webpage dedicated to this service is now LIVE. Please check it out in our drop-down menu!
When you're a therapist learning EMDR, consultations can be incredibly helpful. They offer a space for you as a therapist to get guidance, clarify questions, and troubleshoot any challenges you're facing. Not to mention; If you really enjoy this therapeutic modality - The EMDR International Association (EMDRIA) requires therapists to complete at least 20 hours of clinical consultation with an EMDRIA consultant in order to apply to be fully certified as an EMDR therapist. With EMDR becoming an increasingly popular approach to therapy, I’m hoping that REM Therapy Services can become an authority on the subject, and that we can help fill a gap in education in the province of Ontario, and even beyond. Since clinical consultations is not the same as therapy, we can even see consultees virtually from out of province/country, which addresses a potential barrier with access to this type of training.
EMDR consultations are great for a few reasons: First, they give you a chance to get feedback from an experienced EMDR therapist. We can offer insights on how to handle tricky cases or work through any uncertainties that come up during your sessions. Plus, you get to discuss the finer points of the standard protocol, like how to stay grounded during an intense session or how to pace the processing in a way that feels right for each client.
In short, EMDR consultations are a fantastic way to not only earn the required hourly credits for eventual certification with EMDRIA, but functionally it will allow you to feel more confident as you incorporate this powerful technique into your practice. It’s all about learning and growing as a therapist, and those consultations help ensure you’re providing the best possible care for your clients.
If you’re a clinician and are ready to level up your EMDR and trauma therapy skillset, reach out to us today! We’d love to hear from you.
