Happy Social Work Week 2021!

For those who might not have known, it’s Social Work Week right now – An annual celebration of the profession that happens in March, all across Canada. This year’s theme is #YouAreNotAlone, which really resonates with me.  Whether we’re in lockdown and navigating a global pandemic or not, many of us often feel very alone.  If that’s you today, I want to encourage you to pay attention to what your mind and body are telling you because it’s VALID, and deserves care.  And if you’re in a good headspace today, I encourage you to reach out to a friend or loved one and check in on them.  Even if you’re unsure of how to help them through a challenging situation, just to listen and hold space might bring them more relief than you know.

Finally, if you or your loved one might want some extra support, a great place to start is at Find A Social Worker.ca.  Alternatively, if you or a loved one may be in crisis, please see this Crisis Resources page for a list of hotlines and mobile response teams.

I’m so proud to be a Social Worker today. I’m honoured to a part of this helping profession, and I’m encouraged that the stigma around mental health issues is slowly shifting, for the better.
